We voluntarily withdrew from the competition to give way to the younger generation

From August 1 to 3, the “Ruh-Sanat” World Festival took place on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul. Dedicated to traditional culture and music, the festival featured TURAN – the musical brand of the Turkic world and an ambassador of Turkic culture – performing at its opening ceremony. Additionally, the ensemble held a solo concert for its fans and festival guests. The concert program included works from TAMYR – a project (and namesake album) by TURAN dedicated to fostering unity among Turkic peoples.

“Our repertoire includes the Kyrgyz epic “Kurmanbek – Kyrk Jigit”. We included this piece in our concert program. It is our tradition to perform each Turkic nation’s work using that nation’s native instrument. Hearing this epic in the TURAN arrangement and performance, accompanied by the sound of the komuz, resonated in a special way with the Kyrgyz audience,” shared TURAN member Maksat Medeubek.

As part of the festival, an international competition dedicated to traditional music was also held. Performers and creative groups from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Japan, India, Egypt, South Korea, Poland, Bangladesh, Guinea, Estonia, Hungary, and Nepal took part. According to the ensemble’s members, TURAN was also invited to participate in the competition but declined the offer.

“We voluntarily withdrew from the competition to give way to the younger generation. Instead of competing, we decided to support our Kyrgyz brothers and sisters organizing the festival. At the initiative of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, we came, performed our concert, and took part in the scientific congress held within the festival. There, we discussed ways to pass this traditional art on to the next generation,” said TURAN member Serik Nurmolda.
