The TURAN Ethno-Folk Ensemble, on November 30, held the “Folk & Symphony” concert in Karagandy, as part of the “Dybys Symphony” project, initiated by conductor and composer Abilkhayir Sagymbayev. The concert was presented in collaboration with the E. Rakhmadiev Academic Symphony Orchestra.
Folk & Symphony is one of the innovations introduced by the TURAN Ethno-Folk Ensemble to the world music culture. It is the fusion of Kazakh national music and traditional instruments with the global classical music art, where an ensemble of Kazakh folk instruments meets symphonic orchestration, creating a new, harmonious sound.
In the first part of the concert, the TURAN ensemble presented a lecture-concert format, offering insights into their creative work, the history of their compositions, and the national musical instruments. In the second part, the compositions “Uly Turan – Mangilik”, “Qorqyt”, “Aqsaq Qulan”, “Syrlasu”, “Qazaq Yeli”, “Qara Jorga” and “Er Turan” from the ensemble's repertoire were presented in new arrangements for symphonic orchestra. These works, arranged by Maestro Abilkhayir Sagymbayev, were recognized in a new light and received great admiration and applause from the audience.
