Kuntayak
This is a new type of asatayak introduced by the "Turan" ensemble. Asatayak belongs to the category of noisemaker percussion instruments in Kazakh culture. The asatayak consists of wood, various-shaped metal pendants, and rattles. Historically, this instrument was used by shamans and fortune-tellers to amplify sound during their rituals. According to scholars, the sounds produced by the asatayak also have healing properties. There are several types of asatayak, including aishykty asatayak, konyrauly asatayak, zhylanbasty asatayak, pispekbasty asatayak, and kobyzbas asatayak. Today, the instrument is used to add sound texture to music performed by folk-ethnographic ensembles and orchestras. The design of the kuntayak symbolizes the sun-headed man in Turkic mythology. The kuntayak in the ensemble was made by master Tolegen Sarsenbaev.
