Tuyaktas

Tuyaktas is an ancient percussion musical instrument of the Kazakh people. It is commonly found among nomadic, livestock-raising populations. The instrument is made from a horse's hoof, and to enhance its sound, the upper part is covered with leather. This instrument has been widely used in Kazakh customs and rituals. In particular, girls being married off would accompany their farewell songs with the sound of the tuyaktas. Today, it is utilized in various folk ensembles and orchestras.
